How skin ages
Unfortunately, we are all getting older and it takes its toll on our appearance. Young skin is kept moisturised by hyaluronic acid which absorbs moisture and keeps skin well hydrated. The reduction in hyaluronic acid as well as other factors (environment, gravity…) contribute to the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Our first choice is Juvederm dermal filler range a premium product well known for great results. Juvederm is a range of hyaluronic acid fillers with different gel consistencies for use with specific lines and treatment areas. The gel subtly fills lines with the hyaluronic acid retains moisture. Juvederm also contains a small amount of anaesthetic which makes the treatment more comfortable compared with other products.
The dermal filler is injected in small controlled doses under the skin surface. This gives the skin a fuller, rejuvenated and refreshed appearance. The result can last anywhere between 6 – 12 months.
Why choose us?
Dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections should only be carried out by suitably trained dentists, doctors and nurses. Dr Bal Sekhon is a GDC registered dentist who has an in-depth knowledge of the facial form and regularly administers controlled injections from anaesthetics to filler products. If you would like to know more please feel free to contact the practice or book a consultation.
What is involved?
The whole process will start with an in-depth consultation to determine your needs and what facial features you would like to enhance. Before and after photos will be taken to record your result.
A topical or local anaesthetic is usually applied to enhance comfort in addition to the anaesthetic within the product. Following this the skin is cleaned and product delivered through an ultrafine needle.
The filler delivery normally takes around 30 minutes. No recovery time is needed and you can return to your everyday activities without disruption. If you wear make-up then you may need to leave treated areas uncovered for 12 hours or use a mineral make up.
There can occasionally be swelling, bruising and redness in the treatment area but this tends to subside quickly and arnica may be useful for this purpose.
All after care is provided by Dr Bal Sekhon should it be required.
Fortunately there are not many but they include:
- Pregnancy / breast feeding
- Other products or permanent fillers in area
- Infection or keloid scarring
- Anaphylaxis or sensitivity to products
- If treated with reoccutane it is best to wait 6 months for treatment.
